In 1963 Othmar and Elsbeth Strolz laid the foundation walls of the Hotel Austria in Lech. At that time they had no idea that they had created a “home in the mountains” for many guests from all over the world.

What began then as a small guesthouse has grown today into a first-class 4-star superior hotel and is continued by Claudia, Georg and Aurel Strolz with great attention to detail and the unique charm of a family hotel.

That exclusivity and down-to-earthness do not have to exclude each other, you will experience in the most beautiful way with us. We are happy to accommodate families, but also couples and solo travelers. We are especially pleased when we can host three generations at one table, which happens again and again due to our versatile offer.

The story behind it

Why clocks everywhere?

Othmar Strolz discovered his love for for old clocks in 1965, when his wife Elsbeth received her first clock as a gift from a friend. From then on, the collection grew by one or two new pieces every year. In the 1970s, an antique dealer friend contributed by selling a few watches, and the collection has grown steadily ever since. Every morning, Othmar dedicated himself to the loving task of checking and winding all the clocks. Once a year, a watchmaker came round for maintenance to ensure that the timepieces were in perfect working order. To this day, the clocks adorn our hotel in almost every room – and his son Georg has taken on the responsibility of winding them every day. Interestingly, none of the clocks show the exact time, in keeping with Othmar's motto: 'Life is too short not to have time!'.
